How to Provide Build Documentation to Your Customers After Assembly

The email arrives after you ship: "Can you provide the build documentation for serial numbers 1001 through 1050?" If you assembled with paper instructions and manual sign-offs, this request means hours of work compiling data from multiple sources. If you used a digital system, it takes minutes.

What customers actually want

When a B2B customer asks for build documentation, they typically want proof that their product was assembled correctly. Specifically:

  • Which work instruction version was followed for each unit
  • Who performed each assembly step
  • Timestamps showing when each step was completed
  • Measurement data captured during assembly
  • Photos from quality checkpoints
  • Pass/fail status for each quality gate
